St Cuthberts Care is a charity which works throughout the North East to help improve the lives of some of most vulnerable members of our communities including people with profound disabilities, children in care and older people.
Our Purpose, working for the common good by enabling people to develop to their personal potential, is our guiding principle.
St Cuthberts Care is committed to helping improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, including people with profound disabilities, children in care, older people and those living on the margins of society. Firmly rooted in the Catholic faith, our charity always has and always will place people at the heart of its work.
Our work is highly specialised and we often work in areas of high need that are either unattractive or considered to be too high risk for other providers to take on. To fulfil our Purpose, we engage and contract with a range of professional bodies and local authorities and work closely with churches, other charities and not-for-profit organisations as well as local communities.
We welcomed more than 400 students from across our Diocese to celebrate Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral on Tuesday, 19 April. Our schools were invited to present their gifts and artwork following their tremendous fundraising efforts for St Cuthberts Care’s Good Shepherd Lenten Appeal.
Bishop Séamus Cunningham celebrated the Mass along with Fr Dermott Donnelly and Fr Shaun Purdy, with pupils from across the Diocese taking an active part throughout.
This was our first Good Shepherd Mass to be held at our beautiful Cathedral for many years to help us mark our seventieth birthday. Despite the distance some schools had to travel, it was incredibly well attended and enjoyed by all.
St Cuthberts Care's Chief Executive, Moira Ashman, commented, “It’s been some time since we celebrated our annual Good Shepherd Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral and it was a most joyful, uplifting and heart-warming occasion. It was wonderful to see so many of our young people coming together in celebration to represent their schools, showcase their talents and to present their generous gifts to us. I thank everyone involved."
