As we continue to mark Apprenticeship Week, Rose, who has just joined our St Catherine’s Nursing Home as an apprentice carer, shares her apprenticeship story:
“I’ve wanted to work in care for as long as I can remember and, when I did some research, I found St Cuthbert’s Care’s apprenticeship scheme to be the best by far – both in terms of salary and opportunities to gain real experience.
“I love getting our residents ready for the day ahead, helping them to choose a favourite outfit and making them feel special. There are lots of practical tasks like providing personal care, monitoring fluid and food intake and assisting at mealtimes, too, but we always like to go that one step further and find out how each individual person likes to spend their time. Two of our top priorities are making sure dignity and compassion is at the heart of everything we do and supporting our residents to lead as fulfilling a life as possible.
“It’s hard work, of course, but, if you love helping people, you can’t beat the role for job satisfaction.”
