Services
Our services are summarised here. To see full details of any of them, please press the service titles below.
Today, more children and young people than ever suffer appalling levels of abuse and neglect in their own homes. For many children, removal from the family home into care is the only remaining option open to them.
There is possibly no greater trauma for a child than that of being removed from their family home, however grim the environment.
Through our Auton residential children's homes we provide the care, safety and stability each child needs in order to develop the confidence and life skills that will take them into adulthood.
When leaving school every young person in our care is offered a work apprenticeship with St Cuthberts Care, guaranteeing a permanent job. No other provider of residential care offers this level of commitment or security to its young residents.
We currently operate four Auton residential children's homes. These are located in Sunderland, Darlington and Newcastle. We also provide a specialist 'moving on' provision in Newcastle, to help young people in our care prepare for independent living.

St Cuthberts Care's community services target the most impoverished and marginalised people in our society: those living in abject poverty; older people who have become isolated from their communities; asylum seekers; homeless individuals; those suffering from addiction or mental health issues and more recently, the growing number of families who are struggling to make ends meet in this difficult financial climate.
In keeping with the charity's Purpose, working to the common good by enabling people to develop to their personal potential, we have devised ways to identify 'hard-to-reach' individuals: people who have opted out of society, or who have fallen under its radar, becoming less visible than those accessing mainstream services.
St Cuthberts Care's community services are truly charitable projects, offering goods and services free of charge, or at nominal cost, across our north east region. The charity relies upon the generosity of its stalwart supporters to pay for the entire cost of its community projects. We guarantee that every penny of donated income is spent on its intended cause, without deduction.
The charity works through a small but highly experienced staff team, supported by over one hundred willing volunteers, and reaches out to thousands and thousands of disadvantaged people every year via its two community schemes: 5p Bus project and PACE (Parish And Community Enablement).
Active and caring communities form the heart of every just society. Our two community focused projects are a demonstration of the charity's absolute commitment to making a difference to the lives of those most in need across our north east region.
With need increasing month on month, our only constraint is money. Please help us if you can by becoming a regular supporter of St Cuthberts Care.
We offer a variety of services to adults with learning disabilities in the North East; from supported living, residential care, short breaks and day activities.
Independent Supported Living
We support a number of adults with learning disabilities in Newcastle and Northumberland, enabling them to live as independently as possible, whilst remaining in their own homes. We offer a tailored service which encourages individuality, independent living and the exercise of choice.
Working with other professionals, we ensure that a person-centred approach is delivered in a sensitive and appropriate manner. We carefully tailor a support plan for each individual that offers them the right level of support for their needs, ambitions and aspirations and helps them to develop the life skills they need to maintain their independence, and gain confidence as full and equal members of the community.
Parkhead Resource Centre
The centre at Parkhead offers stimulating educational activities for adults with learning difficulties. Based in Ashington, it runs a wide range of activities, including day trips and excursions. Socialisation and community inclusion are central to the purpose of the service, and these help improve the self-esteem and confidence of those using it.
The Parkhead day centre is a partnership between St Cuthberts Care and Northumberland Care Trust. Attendance at the centre requires a referral from the Care Trust.
Bailiffgate, Alnwick
Bailiffgate is a ten bed residential home for adults with learning disabilities. The service provided is tailored to meet individual needs, underpinned by principles such as inclusion, independence, rights and freedom of choice.
St Cuthberts Care is committed to supporting and enabling older members of the community to remain part of, and to access, community life. Our day centres in Consett and Gateshead provide much needed support and care for older people who suffer either from dementia or from social isolation.
St Joseph's Day Centre
St Joseph's Day Centre in Gateshead is a specialist unit providing day time care and support for older people with dementia, enabling them to continue to live in their own homes, whilst ensuring that their carers are given time to have a break. The day centre offers a wide range of experiences and activities including arts and crafts, cookery and outings.
Referral follows assessment by a mental health social worker. Further information on gaining a referral to St Joseph's Day Centre can be obtained from Gateshead Social Services; or from St Joseph's by phoning: 0191 477 1816; or by emailing: stjosephs@stcuthbertscare.org.uk.
Blackhill Day Centre
Blackhill Day Centre in Consett offers day time activities to older people living in their own homes. As a local service, the centre plays an important role in encouraging local older people to engage with the community, and not become socially isolated.
Aimed particularly at the over 65s, Blackhill Day Centre offers a caring and supportive environment in which to meet like-minded people and enjoy a variety of interesting activities.
As with St Joseph's, referrals are taken from Social Services. Additional information on this service can be gained by calling: 01207 592 721 or emailing: blackhill@stcuthbertscare.org.uk.
