Our day centre in Ashington for people living with learning disabilities has celebrated its fresh new look and enhanced programme of activities with a fabulous party.

On a typically rainy Northumberland day, more than 30 members gathered to mark the occasion with friends, family and our staff as local MP, Ian Lavery cut the ribbon to declare The Hub@Parkhead officially open.

Back inside, Chief Executive, Nic Gilbert led an awards ceremony which saw each member of The Hub receive a certificate to acknowledge their unique contribution towards making The Hub a truly special place in the Ashington community. Awards included: ‘Most Independent Traveller’; “Always Willing to Help’; ‘Makaton Queen’ and ‘Most Infectious Smile’.

Then it was off to the dance floor to dance the afternoon away to a selection of favourite songs performed by Elvis tribute act, James Fox.

“It’s been the best day ever!” said member, Alan, “the staff are excellent.”

Ian Lavery MP said, “I’m delighted to have been invited to the Hub on this special day. I met some amazing people who will clearly benefit from the re-focused programme now offered at the centre. I really enjoyed having a look around the facilities – they are top class! I’m looking forward to visiting again in the not-too-distant future.”
