On National Book Giving Day, our Fostering Manager, Sheila, has delivered a very special book to a very special person.
During a visit to our foster carer, Tracey and the young child placed with her, Sheila surprised them with a copy of Dennis and the Big Decisions – a book written specially to help children better understand foster care.
The book tells the story of how a little duck called Dennis moves from living with his family on the river to live with a new family on a duck pond and how he learns to cope with the changes.
“The book was a lovely surprise,” said Tracey, “but more than that, it’s helping me to explain some very difficult changes in a child-friendly way. My youngster was full of questions as we read the story and I know this is all helping him to better understand his situation.”
This little book is obviously doing a very important job.
