The Alan Shearer Centre began its journey in 2007
Developed by St Cuthbert’s Care and brought to life through a generous £250,000 donation from Alan Shearer’s testimonial at Newcastle United and the remarkable support of schools and parishes across the North East.
From the outset, the Centre has been committed to creating inclusive and accessible spaces for children and adults with disabilities and their families.
In 2012, thanks to the creation of the Alan Shearer Foundation, the Activity Centre became completely free of charge and the money they raise helps to develop our disability provision across our services. This unbelievable achievement reflects Alan Shearer’s unwavering commitment and the generosity of his supporters, allowing thousands of members to benefit from its facilities without barriers.

In 2017, a generous donation from the Alan Shearer Foundation enabled a significant refurbishment of the Hydrotherapy Pool at the Centre, enhancing its therapeutic benefits to better meet the physical and emotional needs of our members.

The Alan Shearer Centre has greatly benefited from the incredible support of our Patron, Mike Browne, whose donation of £250,000 plus Gift Aid has had a lasting impact on our services.
In recognition of Mike’s generosity, we named the cafe within the centre Browne’s Cafe, a place where members, families and staff can enjoy a coffee and a chat in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
