Our Day Centre at Blackhill, near Consett, County Durham, has just celebrated its 10th anniversary with a party for all its regular members. Entertainment was provided by singer Jenna Highfield, whose repertoire included a wide selection of oldies so everyone could sing along or have a dance.
After lunch there was a glass of sherry for everyone for a toast to good health and continued companionship.
96 year old Kitty, pictured with manager Karen McPherson, has been a member since the centre first opened in May 2000 and is determined to keep coming as long as possible.
Blackhill Day Centre plays an important role in the area, preventing social isolation among older people. It is open 3 days a week, offering a range of both stimulating and relaxing activities, occasional outings, plus lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
Volunteers such as Frances Glancey and Freda Hagan (pictured) play an important role in running the centre and we would like to thank them for their support and hard work over the years.
