Our second 5p Bus takes to the road

Our new 5p Bus is now in service, allowing us to bring good quality used clothing and household items to even more socially deprived areas of the North East.

The original 5p Bus has been operating for almost two years now and with over 60 regular venues it had become a resource stretched to its limit. Now, with our second bus on the road, the number of customers has increased to over 2,000 per month.

Service Manager, Ken Hitcham said, “We are delighted to be able to expand our distribution into new areas and we expect demand to be equally high for the new bus, which will cover an area from South Tyneside and Wearside down to Teesside. This means we are appealing for even more donations of clothing, toys, household items and toiletries – and of course we will be happy to hear from anyone who can volunteer to help out on the buses”.

The new bus will visit drop-in centres, charities, refugee services, community projects and schools. Details of venues, dates and times can be obtained by calling St Cuthbert’s Care’s reception on 0191 228 0111.

Bus driver Peter Nichol is pictured with Kelly Rutter, who also works at our “bus depot” and distribution centre in Swallwell, Gateshead.
