Our annual gathering for Carols by Candlelight was held this year at St. Cuthbert’s House in the west end of Newcastle.
St. Cuthbert’s is home to both the head office of St Cuthbert’s Care and to the offices of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. The whole of the ground floor comprises St. Catherine’s Care Home and a number of the residents attended the service.
Father Michael Whalen of The Holy Name church in Jesmond led the service and once again the choir was provided by Sacred Heart Comprehensive School, with their head of music, Sarah Scott. As well as giving their own polished performance, the girls also led everyone in singing traditional favourites such as “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” and “Silent Night”.
This year we had a second choir, formed by regulars from our Live and Learn course at the Alan Shearer Centre. They gave us a lively performance of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” complete with signing for the hearing impaired.
As usual there were refreshments and a chance for everyone to mingle and chat before leaving.
