As a Catholic charity, St Cuthbert’s Care has always had close ties with both parishes and schools throughout the
Diocese of Hexham and Northumberland. Our new outreach project for the homeless and other socially isolated people has been launched in partnership with St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle’s Worswick Street and is intended to be just the first of many.
The Worswick Welcome Centre offers a place that is safe, warm and friendly where the homeless, people without an income and people living with addiction or substance abuse can find hot food and drinks and a few hours relief from their hardship.
News of the Centre has spread quickly and numbers visiting rose dramatically from 2 in its first week to over 35 just 3 weeks later.
The Welcome Centre, which is open every Friday between 10am and 2pm, is staffed entirely by volunteers and, in addition to food and drinks, visitors have the opportunity to find good quality used clothing on our 5p Bus which parks outside St Andrew’s Church.
