A brand new Lunch Club will be opening in Newton Aycliffe next week, thanks to a partnership with local charity St Cuthbert’s Care and St Mary’s Church.
With initial advice and guidance through St Cuthbert’s Care’s ‘PACE’ project (Parish and Community Engagement), Parish Priest Fr Michael Campion and volunteers from across the parish, will be holding their first Lunch Club at St Mary’s Church on Thursday 24th March 2011.
The Lunch Club gives elderly people the opportunity to come along for a bite to eat and a chat, as well as the chance to make new friends. Priced at just £3 per person, the Lunch Club will run every Thursday from 11am until 2pm and offers members a healthy lunch, as well as morning and afternoon refreshments.
Kathleen Urwin, PACE Co-ordinator, St Cuthbert’s Care says:
“This really is a fantastic project and we were delighted to help Fr. Campion and his parishioners get the Lunch Club up and running. We hope the Lunch Club will prove very popular with those living in Newton Aycliffe and not only give members somewhere special that they look forward to going to on a Thursday, but also help them make new friends within their community.”
