Nearly 30 new venues have been added to our 5p Bus schedule in the last month, expanding our unique clothes distribution service into areas such as Shiremoor, South Shields, Stanley and Prudhoe. Each month we visit more than 140 venues, each one in an area of high deprivation, where we provide clothing and other basic essentials to almost 1500 people in need.
For many, however, the 5p Bus is not just a source of affordable clothing. One regular customer eagerly waits for the bus to visit her area, “I feel safe and secure shopping on the bus and it’s a time I can enjoy some company,” she said. “I’d be lost without the 5p Bus.”
In the last few weeks our 5p Bus has also helped three different families who were each referred to our service through other supporting organisations. These families were destitute, and items from our 5p Bus were able to make their lives a little more comfortable until longer term help could be arranged.
