Astounding generosity

People have stunned us with their extraordinary generosity this month as toys have flooded in, in response to our 5p Bus Christmas Toy Appeal.

The toys have gone out every day during December on our two buses to be distributed at more than 140 venues across the region. From teddies to toiletries, games to gadgets, over 1000 children of all ages have benefited from our appeal.

As well as helping more than 700 families in poverty who have visited our 5p Bus, we have also worked with a number of other caring organisations. We were approached by St Bede’s Christian Fellowship to work with Bedlington Christian Fellowship as they launched their own appeal to provide food to families to enable them to celebrate Christmas together by sharing food and gifts. St Cuthbert’s Care’s Community Services team partnered the group of volunteers to add a toy to the Christmas goodies being provided and more than 90 children have been helped through the partnership so far. However, the spirit of giving won’t stop once Christmas is over. Now the links between our charity and the church have been established, we will continue to work together to help many more families in crisis throughout the year.

We would like to thank each and every one who has donated toys and helped to make Christmas morning exciting and happy for children who would otherwise have little or nothing under their tree.

Remember, our 5p Bus service relies on donations all year round, so if you would like to make donations of clothing or other essential items to help us help those in need, please get in touch on 0191 228 0111.
