This week we celebrated the official launch of The Alan Shearer Foundation at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre in Newcastle.
Speaking at a packed press launch Alan, supported by fellow St Cuthbert’s Care patrons Ant and Dec, Lady Elsie Robson and Mike Browne, announced the aims of the new Foundation watched by the charity’s board members, representatives from local business and regular service users.
He explained the purpose of the Foundation; which is to raise at least £250,000 every year to benefit thousands of disabled people throughout North East England; and the aims which include continuing to offer free and heavily subsidised facilities at the Alan Shearer Activity and Short Break Centres and broadening the scope of St Cuthbert’s Care’s disability provision right across the region.
To start the fundraising ball rolling Alan, Ant and Dec signed a football, which will be auctioned via the Foundation website shortly.
During the launch Alan also urged his loyal fans and supporters of St Cuthbert’s Care to dig deep to raise funds for the Foundation. He pledged to support his fundraisers by visiting some of them to thank them in person.
He added: “I am in this for the long haul. I love it here at the Activity Centre. Whenever I think I am having a bad day I come along here and realise at times how lucky we all are.”
