Jack Kilday is just the sort of young man you need to have on hand in an emergency, having received royal recognition of his First Aid skills earlier this month.
Jack travelled down to London to receive a St John Ambulance Young Achiever Award at a reception hosted by Princess Anne.
Jack, 17 years old, recently joined St Cuthbert’s Care as an apprentice care assistant and is training for his Diploma in Health and Social Care at St Catherine’s Residential Care and Nursing Home.
Jack was absolutely thrilled, saying: “I was so excited to be invited to Buckingham Palace and it was an experience I will never forget.”
Jack first joined St John Ambulance as a cadet and is now an operational member and can become a full member when he is 18. In the meantime, Jack has completed an advanced training course covering all key areas of first aid, including infection control and is now competently trained in using a defibrillator to assist heart-attack sufferers.
Fortunately Jack has not yet needed to call upon his first aid skills at St Catherine’s, but says that they do complement the work he is now undertaking.
Well done Jack!
