Residents of St Catherine’s Care Home can be in no doubt that Christmas has really arrived, with no less than three days of carol singing this week.
Boys from Blaydon Scout Troop sang carols for an appreciative audience in the home’s chapel on Monday night. The performance followed a meeting for residents’ families so the chapel was filled to capacity. St Catherine’s Manager, June Spoors said, “We were delighted that the boys came that particular night when so many families were gathered together. The singing was wonderful.”
The following afternoon there were more visiting carol singers, this time from Virgin Employment in Gosforth. Dressed as Santa and his elves they led residents in a selection of well-known favourites and brought a very generous, and delicious, gift of sweets and beautifully decorated home-made cupcakes.
Wednesday afternoon saw St Catherine’s annual carol service in the chapel led by Fr Michael Whalen, with a choir from English Martyrs RC Primary School leading the singing. A few members of the Live and Learn group from the Alan Shearer Activity Centre came along and gave a lively performance of Winter Wonderland before family and guests joined residents for refreshments.
