St Catherine’s has joined care homes across the country in celebrating Dignity in Action Day, which highlights the importance of upholding the dignity, not only of people receiving care, but also of those providing it.
Activities Co-ordinator, Richard Dobinson, began preparations a day earlier, working with some of the residents, making cakes in the home’s kitchen. Richard said, ”St Catherine’s places as much importance on dignity and respect for our residents as we do on their physical wellbeing. It is always nice though, to set aside a special day to bring everyone together and remind ourselves of the, sometimes quite simple, things we can do to promote it.”
Richard, who has won awards for his work in the care field over the past 12 years, gave a short talk about dignity in old age and in working with and caring for the elderly, then refreshments were served – including the home made cakes.
Singing duo Jim and Val were welcomed back to provide some entertainment. They had proved very popular when they performed at St Catherine’s last December and residents have requested more visits from them.
“The day was a great success.” said Richard ”I will be arranging more of these family get-togethers soon. Residents form close friendships here, so it’s nice to bring their families together to meet each other too.”
