Holy Cross welcomes back Bishop Cunningham

Bishop Seamus Cunningham kindly accepted our invitation to celebrate mass in the chapel of our Holy Cross Care Home in Sunderland this week; his first visit to the home since he officiated at the re-dedication of the home’s chapel last year.

Joining Holy Cross residents and volunteers for the service were local parishioners and St Cuthbert’s Care staff, including our Chief Executive, Austin Donohoe. Bishop Seamus took as his theme the obligation and the joy of giving something back to the world in return for the blessings we receive. He said that the mission of lay people is to take the faith they receive from the church and to go out and share the message of God with the community at large.

After the service refreshments were served in the home’s day room, where Bishop Seamus mingled and chatted and with residents, along with local priests Fr Robert, Fr Mariadass and Fr McCoy who had concelebrated the mass.
