Sunshine and laughter on a trip to the beach

When the sun shone, at last, for our residents at Holy Cross, they couldn’t wait to get in their minibus and take a trip to the seaside.

Everyone was excited as they left the centre of Sunderland behind and the scenery changed to sea and sand. As they drove along the coast past Seaburn, Roker and Whitburn, many of the residents shared childhood memories of their times ‘at the beach’ or discussed with each other how things had changed since their time.

The bus stopped in South Shields so that everyone could relax and enjoy the view for a while, then it was time to complete their trip with an ice cream before heading back home.

“We always try to make the most of the fine weather and take our residents out for a trip whenever we can,” said Activity Co-ordinator, Liz King. “A trip to the beach is always popular and everyone loves reminiscing about their adventures in their younger days. Some of the stories cause quite a few laughs!”

There are currently a limited number of nursing and residential places available at Holy Cross. If you are interested in finding out more, or would like to arrange a visit, please call our Family Liaison Manager, June Spoors on 0191 228 8000.
