A day to remember for St Catherine’s residents

St Catherine’s residents have once again been guests of the Newbiggin branch of the Royal British Legion at an armed forces commemoration service in the town.

The five former servicemen and women from St Catherine’s received their invitation from Northumberland branch chairman, Keith Laws, when he visited the home recently. Ex-RAF men Vincent Bullman and Tom Armstrong joined Rhona Anderson (WRAF), Alan Mathieson (Royal Artillery) and Agnes Armstrong (Women’s Land Army) for what they described as a very special day out.

It was a perfect summer’s day for the service in the town square, which was attended by Royal British Legion members and a large crowd of local people. Afterwards, lunch was provided in the Legion’s Bankhouse Club. Memories and reminiscences came flooding back as our veterans chatted with Legion members and they said they enjoyed themselves so much, they could have stayed for the whole day.

The Legion maintains close links with former servicemen in care homes and will be welcoming our residents to more events and get-togethers in the future.
