Youngsters set the pace

A weekend of fun running and fundraising for the Alan Shearer Foundation kicked off on Saturday with two ten-year-old girls taking part in the Junior Great North.

Hannah Milne and Eleanor Rowe of St Cuthbert’s Primary School, Kenton joined the 4km run along the Quayside in Newcastle holding hands as they crossed the finish line in just over 24 minutes. The pair will be holding a cake stall at school this week to raise more funds for the Foundation.

On Sunday seven runners competed in some challenging weather conditions in this year’s Great North Run. Michael Atkinson, Sarah Croft, Louise Gillespie, Shaun Milne, Julie Phillips, Sally Proud and Adele Southern all completed the 13.1 mile course from Newcastle to South Shields for the Foundation.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who has been competing this weekend and to all their sponsors and supporters.

If you are inspired by this year’s athletes and would like to run for the Foundation in the world’s greatest half marathon contact Nicola Milne on 0191 228 0111.
