There has been a lot of posturing going on at St Catherine’s care home after residents were taught some martial arts moves …
But there was, in fact, no senior citizen scuffling in the corridors as residents were actually being shown the calming and beneficial poses of the Chinese sport of tai chi.
NHS qualified practitioner, Wendy Chin, came to the home to help our residents use the postures, breathing techniques and meditation involved in the gentle exercise which is recognised for its health benefits. Tai chi is known to enhance mobility, circulation and relaxation and is thought to increase longevity by those who practise it regularly.
Residents enjoyed the exercises and the poses which they tried while seated as Wendy helped guide them into position.
Activities co-ordinator, Richard Dobinson, said he hoped to book Wendy to come back to St Catherine’s later in the year.
