Extra chairs, tables and a loud speaker were called for last week when Parkhead’s pie and pea supper proved particularly popular.
The local scout hut and church hall came to the rescue with furniture and a microphone for the event, which featured a routine by young, local singer, Lewis Denny, as well as a session of bingo, a raffle and supper.
“Parkhead is relatively small so when we realised there were dozens of people coming we knew we would have to use all the rooms and needed a loud speaker so that everyone would be able to hear the bingo,” said manager, Nicola Johnson.
The Ashington resource centre was buzzing as Lewis’s show was a huge hit with the crowd. The entertainer encouraged Parkhead service users to sing along and dance to party classics like Tony Christie’s “Is this the way to Amarillo”.
“It was really heart-warming to see everyone up dancing and how much they were all enjoying themselves,” said Nicola.
The successful event also raised funds which will go towards Parkhead’s Christmas party when Lewis has been booked again to help provide the festive atmosphere.
