It’s congratulations all round today as everyone at Holy Cross basks in the glory of their thrilling win at this year’s Sunderland in Bloom competition.
At the nail-biting Civic Awards ceremony held at the Roker Hotel yesterday, Holy Cross gardener, Gordon McKee, was delighted when he stepped up to receive the award for Best Religious Establishment.
Mayor of Sunderland, Robert Heron, presented Gordon with a trophy and plaque to bring back to Holy Cross where they will now have pride of place in reception for everyone to enjoy.
As an additional reward, Gordon also received a £25 gift voucher which will be used to buy plants to keep Holy Cross blossoming and living up to its reputation as a Sunderland in Bloom award winner.
Holy Cross manager, Amanda Head said, “Gordon does a fabulous job and our residents even help keep the place blooming with their own potted plants in the summer months. I’m over the moon to that we’ve won an award!”
