The Nativity story came to St Catherine’s this week when a cast of 60 eight-year-olds performed at the care home.
The pupils from English Martyrs Primary School, Fenham, were dressed as a menagerie of camels, donkeys and sheep along with angels, stars, kings, shepherds – and even a midwife in a modern twist to the tale, which included satellite navigation devices and mobile phone technology!
There was high praise from the residents, staff and St Cuthbert’s Care trustees who attended. “That was wonderful! You were all wonderful!” said St Catherine’s resident, Pat.
After the play St Catherine’s residents enjoyed the traditional carol, Away in a Manger, when some of the children went around the home to give a private rendition to some in their own rooms.
The residents then rounded off the afternoon with sherry, mince pies and a Christmas sing along.
