Pupils sing for former teacher

A school choir has been visiting St Catherine’s this week to sing for a resident who was a former teacher at their school.

Kenton Bar Primary School was Ian Pyle’s first teaching post and it was his suggestion that the children should come and entertain residents at the home with carol singing.

“All the residents thoroughly enjoyed it,” said St Catherine’s Activities Co-ordinator Richard Dobinson, “Ian has had a long association with the school and he was delighted and honoured that they came here for him.”

The children performed a medley of Christmas carols including Silent Night, Little Donkey and Go Tell it on the Mountain, accompanying some of the singing with Makaton signs and gestures.

Afterwards they presented Mr Pyle with a gift and a card for all the residents and staff signed by the whole school.

The school plan to return for more performances in the New Year.

Meanwhile, it’s a busy week for musical entertainment at St Catherine’s. Today the Jiva duo, Jim and Val, are performing, tomorrow the “singing granny”, Brenda Sokell is returning by popular demand as the highlight of the home’s Christmas party, while on Friday guitarist Steve Brown will be the star turn.
