Home for Christmas

Holy Cross is welcoming residents in time for Christmas as it opens five new bedrooms.

The nursing and residential care home received registration for the new rooms this month for permanent residents, and is looking forward to the return of a 94-year-old guest who will stay for a few days over the holiday period.

“We are delighted to welcome back our short break care guest,” said Holy Cross Manager, Amanda Head, “She came last year and booked in again as a break from her sheltered accommodation home because she likes the social, family feel we have here. She says she likes to come for the company, the Christmas dinner and the chapel!”

Part of the former convent on the first floor of the building was converted to provide the spacious new rooms, which all have en-suite facilities and brings the residential capacity at Holy Cross to 51.

Amanda added: “It’s lovely to open the new rooms for residents at this special time of year!”

Earlier this year Holy Cross was given the top rating in Sunderland City Council’s Quality Standards Process when it received a Gold Award. The home provides a quality service to older people who are no longer able to live in their own homes by enabling residents to live as independently as possible while receiving any nursing support they need.
