New moves and old memories planned for St Catherine’s

This year’s special events programme at St Catherine’s is kicking off with some tai chi moves as demonstrated by our regular visiting practitioner, Wendy Chin.

Wendy will be visiting next Wednesday (15 January) to show residents at the care home the poses, breathing and meditation techniques which are beneficial to health and are believed to promote longevity.

On Friday residents will be invited to get stuck in to some clay modelling as Joanne drops in for a crafts afternoon, and later in the month there will be more arty decoration making in preparation for the Chinese New Year.

Meanwhile, the home’s Activities Coordinator, Richard Dobinson, is also putting together an entertainment schedule for 2014 which is set to feature the hundredth anniversary of the start of the Great War.

“I’m organising a World War I commemoration event for later in the year,” he said. “I want to make it a really special reminiscence day when we are hoping to involve the British Legion, have a tea party, cakes, and hear from a guest speaker.”

Residents, relatives and friends visiting St Catherine’s are kept up-to-date with all the home’s activities with a book of photos, posters and leaflets to browse through in the foyer.
