Troublesome cooking is a thing of the past for volunteers at Sunderland Open House thanks to the delivery of a brand new range cooker funded by Northumbria Police.
Local PC Stephen Stringer is a regular visitor to the drop-in cafĂ© and, when he found out that the volunteers prepare and serve around 7000 meals for some of the most vulnerable people in the city, he couldn’t wait to help.
Within a matter of months, Stephen had supported the volunteers with an application for funding from the Northumbria Police Charities Fund and dreams of a new cooker were turned into reality.
Paul Andre, Sunderland Charities Fund Trustee, said: “We were delighted to be able to help this charity which provides such great support to hundreds of people in Sunderland.”
