R.E.S.P.E.C.T. find out what it means to us

A host of activities are being planned at our care homes in the lead up to Dignity Action Day on February 1.

St Catherine’s Activities’ Co-ordinator, Richard Dobinson, has lined up a week-long series of special events to highlight the National Dignity Council initiative.

“It’s something we strive for and do anyway but I wanted to promote the theme for more than a day,” said Richard.

“Next Monday we’ll have a reminiscence session on the 1940s,” he said, “on Tuesday I hope to have guests from Thornton’s confectioners to come and talk to the residents, then we’ll do some war time-style baking on Wednesday, have a ’60s theme quiz night on Thursday and round off the week with guest speakers discussing Dignity in Action.”

Meanwhile, our Holy Cross care home will be holding its own ‘digni-tea’ session on Saturday 1 February when there will be a cream tea, dignity discussion and entertainment provided by vocalist Carol Lee.

The Dignity Council says that by supporting their action day it will remind society that respect and dignity is everybody’s business. The organisation says that treating people as individuals, providing stimulating activities and a sense of purpose, and allowing more choice of daily routines are important considerations when providing care.
