Horses and courses at Holy Cross

There is a ‘bit’ of unusual therapy coming ‘under starter’s orders’ at Holy Cross this spring!

Our Sunderland care home has a ‘meet and greet’ planned when equine visitors from KL Pony Therapy are set to come to the home in March.

The horsey visit is just one of the events the home’s new Activities Co-ordinator, Claire Lambert, has in store for residents.

Claire, a qualified events and wedding planner, has a wealth of experience of activities co-ordination having previously worked with young disabled people, those suffering dementia as well as in nursing and residential homes. Now she is bringing her expertise to keep our Holy Cross residents entertained and involved in the programme.

“Activities are planned and based on what the residents want and like to do,” she said, “We had a lot of entertainers and animal therapy. I also used to get the residents out and about as much as possible in the better weather even if it was just to sit in the garden.”

Claire’s recreation and relaxation programme for Holy Cross includes movie afternoons, sing-alongs, crafts, bingo and bowls among the regular events. Special activities for February include a cheese and wine evening, old fashioned sweet party, songs of praise event and a trip to Beamish Hall for cream teas.
