Nursing home residents have been entertained with a musical medley covering all genres and tastes.
The Semitones ensemble visited St Catherine’s at the weekend to play a wide ranging soundtrack which included tunes from the shows, World War II standards and some classical music.
The musicians, performing with classical instruments, such as the oboe, clarinet and violin, were joined by some percussive audience participation on tambourines as well as some singalong accompaniment. The Semitones are volunteers who play free concerts in care homes and sheltered accommodation around Newcastle from their Gosforth base.
Richard Dobinson, St Catherine’s Activities Coordinator, said that audience had been very appreciative of the performance.
“The response from the residents and families was fantastic and the band said they had been made to feel very welcome. We would love to have the Semitones back to perform for us again,” he said.
