A weekly newsletter to be delivered to all nursing home residents is being launched at St Catherine’s later this month.
The Sparkling Times will preview events and activities taking place at the home, include reminders of residents’ birthdays and list anniversaries of celebrated occasions from history along with birthdays of famous people.
The home’s activities coordinator and Sparkling Times editor, Richard Dobinson, said: “It will be a nice way to keep everyone up to date with what’s happening at St Catherine’s. Some residents can’t easily get around to read the notice board so it will be another way for them to hear some good news and find out what’s on.”
Richard is also planning to run a book club at the home for residents and their families to discuss their latest reading matter.
“We hope to have local authors, like Ann Cleeves, coming to St Catherine’s to talk about what inspired them to write,” said Richard.
He added: “It will be held monthly on a Wednesday evening between 6pm and 7pm and we’d like to involve all the family by including some children’s writers too.”
Both literary projects are due to start after Easter.
