St Catherine’s is marking national Dementia Awareness Week this week with a series of events culminating in a family coffee morning at the home on Sunday 25 May.
A variety of activities has been arranged including a performance by singer Jayne Welch who will be entertaining residents with hits from the musicals, a 60s quiz night and a nostalgic baking session.
The home’s activities coordinator, Richard Dobinson, who is an official Dementia Friend as part of the Alzheimer’s Society initiative, says that this week’s events are particularly beneficial for those residents with dementia.
“Music can be great for those with dementia by enhancing memories and getting everyone together in a social group situation makes people feel engaged and included,” says Richard. “And our cookery session should help stimulate all the senses!”
