Swastikas and the swinging 60s remembered

Holy Cross residents are taking a trip down memory lane this week when activities coordinator, Clare Quinn, reads from a book entitled “Swastikas on their underpants”!

“It’s told during World War II and the story is based around St Cecilia’s Church and Tunstall Hill in Ryhope where many of our residents were parishioners,” says Clare.

In the next couple of weeks Clare is arranging to have a cookery session at our Sunderland home using some ration book recipe pamphlets, which should help stir a few memories for those who lived through the war.

Meanwhile, residents at St Catherine’s have been entertained with songs from down the decades when singer, Jayne Welch, was a guest at the Newcastle home yesterday.

Jayne performed 60s numbers and some Doris Day favourites with residents clapping along and joining in with her act. She has promised a return visit due to popular demand.
