It’s official – Richard knows his stuff!

The man responsible for coordinating residents’ activities at St Catherine’s has gained an official award in fun and games!

Dedicated care home activities coordinator, Richard Dobinson, has received a BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Activity Provision in Social Care after studying at Gateshead College.

Richard has passed modules which included titles such as: Implement Therapeutic Group Activities, Equality and Diversity in Activity Provision, and Understand the Process and Experience of Dementia.

Residents, relatives and colleagues already knew that Richard was, himself, a top class act having been in charge of events and activities at our Newcastle home for two years. Now, through his hard work at college he has received the official certificate to prove it, while he has also been continuing to develop his skills outside of work by becoming a Dementia Friend through the Alzheimer Society national initiative.

But Richard is certainly not resting on his laurels. Following his hugely successful wartime commemoration event at St Catherine’s earlier this month, when he had arranged for resident Agnes Armstrong to receive an official badge of honour for her service in the Women’s Land Army, Richard is planning another special occasion to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6 June.

Other activities Richard has lined up at the home before then include some guest entertainers, a cookery session, book readings and a coffee morning this Sunday, 25 May, as part of national dementia awareness week.
