St Catherine’s residents are commemorating the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings with the launch of their own state of the art technology.
Residents were invited to gather together in St Catherine’s lounge, which was decorated with union flag bunting, to watch television coverage on the home’s new, huge projector screen on the equipment’s first official airing today.
As well as the tv show activities coordinator, Richard Dobinson, gave a talk on the historic events of 6th June 1944 and played rousing recordings of Winston Churchill speeches before lightening the mood with some music from the era.
The new multi-media facility installed at the home also enables events and performances taking place in the lounge, and Masses held in St Catherine’s chapel, to be shown on television sets in residents’ private rooms.
“We still really want residents to come together to see the live shows and take part in activities in person,” said Richard, “But it’s useful for those who are unable to get to the lounge or the chapel so that they don’t miss out.”
Richard is planning further military-inspired events at St Catherine’s to mark Armed Forces Day on 28 June.
