Our Sunderland care home residents have been putting together the ingredients for a reminiscence afternoon which has certainly stirred up some memories.
Residents at Holy Cross have been taking part in a cookery session using instructions from ration book recipe pamphlets. The team of chefs took turns to add and stir the ingredients and mixed up a couple of light fruit cakes and two date and walnut loaves which were baked then shared during the home’s teatime break.
Activities coordinator, Clare Quinn, said that the event succeeded in reminding residents of memories of cooking at home during the war.
“The cookery session was very successful,” said Clare, “We will definitely be doing another and may try slightly more adventurous recipes next time!”
Holy Cross, along with our Newcastle care home, St Catherine’s will be taking part in this year’s National Care Home Open Day initiative this Friday, 20th June. To find out more please call our family liaison manager, June Spoors, on 0191 228 0111.
