Limbering up for Open Day

St Catherine’s residents were limbering up today, Friday 20 June, as the Newcastle home prepared to welcome the public as part of the National Care Home Open Day initiative.

Wendy Chin, the home’s regular tai chi expert, called in this morning to run residents through a routine of gentle armchair exercise to accompanying music designed to encourage healthy circulation and thought to promote longevity. This afternoon residents were ready for a hearty sing along to start to the weekend.

Meanwhile, our Sunderland residents at Holy Cross enjoyed the visit of One Act Productions who gave a panto-style performance of “Alice in Summertime” followed by an afternoon cream tea.

The open day also presented an opportunity for the charity to recruit volunteers to lend a hand at our homes on a regular basis.

“We are always looking for people to share their time and talents with the charity,” says St Cuthbert’s Care Volunteer Coordinator, Nicola Milne.

Anyone who would like to find out more about helping with the activities and events at our care homes should contact Nicola on 0191 228 0111.
