Holy Cross resident, Isabella Skea, is enjoying the sweet taste of victory after winning the home’s football World Cup sweepstake.
Isabella won a prize of a box of Celebrations chocolates after picking Germany as champions out of the 32 teams who competed in the World Cup tournament earlier this month.
Now that the global football contest is over residents have a great summer of other entertainment in store organised by the Sunderland home’s activities coordinator, Clare Quinn.
This week there will be an illustrated talk on the history of Sunderland by Norman Kirtland as well as a return visit by popular singer Kayley Cares. Next month four-legged visitors will be arriving at Holy Cross to provide some ‘pony therapy’.
“The Petting Ponies came a few months ago and we have had lots of requests for them to come again,” says Clare. “In September Memphis Mike, the Elvis lookalike, will be entertaining our residents and in October, to celebrate Respect for Older People Day, we are having a singer called Gilly coming to sing songs from the 30s, 40s and 50s.”
Residents have already been taking part in some new sensory and communication sessions at the home which included singing, light armchair exercises, hand massage and using percussion instruments. Clare has also planned some more cookery sessions following the success of the first baking day last month when residents cooked up some delicious fruit cakes and date and walnut loaves.
