St Catherine’s residents are to be reminded of their Geordie heritage in a project organised by the care home’s activities coordinator, Richard Dobinson.
Inspired by the local history work being carried out by libraries in the vicinity Richard has already collated a wealth of information, literature and posters featuring the West End of Newcastle, Denton Burn and Benwell.
“What I would like to do is to have some photographs of residents as they were growing up and to create biographies of their lives including reminiscences of their childhood, working and family lives,” says Richard. “I’m now seeking help from relatives and friends to dig out old photos of our residents that we can use in the project.”
The reminiscence work will culminate in an exhibition in October when Richard hopes to have someone from the City Library service or Newcastle’s Discovery Museum come to the home to give an illustrated talk.
