Handbags and glad rags on offer at Holy Cross

Designer handbags, China, pictures and various objets d’art are up for grabs at Holy Cross this weekend.

The Sunderland home’s activities coordinator, Clare Quinn, is staging a “mock auction” of a wide range of donated accessories, antiques and collectables on Saturday, 30 August.

“Instead of the summer fayre this year we thought we would hold the sale and invite residents, their families and the local community to join us at Holy Cross,” said Clare. “We’ve had designer handbags donated as well as pictures, mirrors and chairs. Some items will be put together in pot luck boxes for the more adventurous bidders!”

Clare’s dad, Jack Blackburn, will be wielding the gavel as auctioneer for the day and will be looking to raise as much as possible for the home’s amenities fund.

“We have a room packed to the rafters with stuff,” says Holy Cross administrator, Alison Hutchinson. “In my opinion one of the best items is a 12-inch high, stuffed, Silent Night hippo with duck attached!”

Viewing will take place between 1.30pm and 2.30pm followed by the start of the auction. There will also be a cake stall to help sustain hungry bidders.
