Equine time at Holy Cross

Holy Cross residents have been welcoming some unusual four-legged visitors to the home.

While St Catherine’s occasionally have a cat petting session, when night shift carer Alice Knott brings her feline friends to work, our Sunderland care home had some altogether different four-legged visitors recently.

A couple of miniature ponies, which are just a couple of feet high, were invited into the home’s activities room – and even took a trip upstairs to see residents in their own rooms.

It was a return ride for the horses from KL Pony Therapy who visited our Sunderland home earlier this year. Residents enjoyed seeing the ponies close up without having to leave the comfort of their armchairs.

The Darlington based pony therapy company regularly makes visits to care homes where it has been shown to be beneficial to residents, particularly for those who have poor mobility or coordination, and people who suffer from depression, anxiety or have learning difficulties.
