St Catherine’s remembers the good old days

Music hall memories were brought to mind when the one-man-variety-act, Allen Cutler, made a welcome return visit to St Catherine’s this week.

Allen started his show with some favourite old tunes while he modelled balloons into animal shapes, swords and hats for the audience.

The popular entertainer’s repertoire continued with a blend of comedy, magic and impersonations. There was, of course, plenty of audience participation with sing-alongs to everything from Daisy, Daisy to his rendition of Tony Christie’s Is this the Way to Amarillo? with visitors and staff joining in the dance moves.

The audience also were encouraged to form their own a nattily dressed jazz band wearing giant bow ties and coloured bowler hats and playing tambourines, maracas and football-style rattles.

There was even a spot harmonica playing and some yodelling!

Richard Dobinson, St Catherine’s activities coordinator, said: “It’s been a fantastic afternoon and everyone’s really enjoyed it. Allen’s certainly good value and great fun. We’ll be inviting him back to put on some Christmas entertainment!”
