Residents are set for an afternoon of comedy when BBC Radio’s ITMA is aired at St Catherine’s.
The care home’s activities coordinator, Richard Dobinson, will be playing some audio tapes of the World War II comedy show, which were donated to St Catherine’s, for a comic, nostalgia session this week.
The episodes which Richard has lined up include Navy, Army and Airforce editions and a Royal Command Performance of the programmes which revolve around popular comedian Tommy Handley and his bizarre jobs and situations. The morale-boosting, radio comedy programme ran from 1939 to 1949 and refers to the ever more frequent news stories about Hitler in the lead up to World War II and, more specifically, a Daily Express headline.
At the end of the week Richard will be marking World Mental Health day with a sensory session for St Catherine’s residents and a discussion about psychological issues and related topics.
