Prize goes to seed

Bloomin’ lovely – we’ve done it again! Our Holy Cross home’s gardens have scooped the award for the best garden in the Religious Establishment category of the Sunderland in Bloom competition 2014.

The care home’s gardener, Gordon McKee, is no stranger to winning the award having received the prize on numerous occasions, including last year.

“I’ve won it so many times now I think that it’s nicer and more important to the home than it is for me personally,” said Gordon.

The judges said that Holy Cross gardens, which won the Class 5 – West award, was: “An impressive entry with very well maintained gardens and grounds.”

The Class winners receive a trophy for one year, a plaque and a certificate signed by the Mayor plus a £25 Clays Garden Centre gift voucher. Gordon says that he will be reinvesting his prize token in seeds to grow in the hope of impressing the judges again next year.
