The spirit of Christmas was certainly alive in the region when acts of kindness from a variety of sources were welcomed by St Cuthbert’s Care this week.
As we celebrate epiphany, when the three wise men visited the baby Jesus with gifts 12 days after his birth, St Cuthbert’s Care is giving thanks for some big-hearted contributions to our services over the Christmas period.
A string of generous gestures during the festive season included:
- Adults with learning disabilities who use the charity’s Parkhead day resource centre in Ashington were offered free transport to their Christmas lunch in Morpeth by G B Travel
- After a delivery problem with an order Marks and Spencer, Kingston Park, donated free party food when they heard it was for an event for disabled children at the Alan Shearer Centre, Newcastle
- Pupils at St Cuthbert’s RC Primary School, Crook, and St Wilfred’s RC College in South Shields, through their annual “Angel Tree” service, gave toys and games for children fostered through the charity over Christmas and for youngsters living in deprived areas in the region
- A donation of dozens of chocolate oranges was received at the Alan Shearer Centre as part of a charity initiative by staff at the Benton branch of the Department of Work and Pensions.
“We are uplifted and heartened by the offers of support we receive from businesses, schools and individuals who want to help those who are less fortunate at this time of year,” says St Cuthbert’s Care Chief Executive, Moira Ashman.
“We are also thankful to those people who make regular donations to our charity and support our fundraisers as well as those who volunteer for us and give their time freely. We are truly grateful for their help, year round.”
