Holy Cross resident, Ruth Brown, received a message from the Queen in the Christmas post when she celebrated her 100th birthday at the home last week.
Our Sunderland nursing home helped celebrate Ruth’s special day on 29 December with a party for nearly 100 friends and members of three generations of her family. She sported a large “It’s my birthday” badge and pink rose corsage as she received the framed 100th birthday wishes.
Her son Paul, who travelled from Grimsby for the occasion, said: “It was fantastic to get everyone together. The care home did a great job in organising the party.”
The deputy manager at Holy Cross, Julie Thompson, said that they wanted to mark the event in a special way. “We tried really hard to make sure everybody had a good time and it went really well. Ruth had an amazing time with her friends and family. She really enjoyed it,” she said.
