Pupils from Sacred Heart Catholic High School have given a specially designed work of art to our St Catherine’s nursing home in Newcastle.
The large mixed media, felted, paint and fabric wall hanging was created by girls from the Year 7 Art Group and donated to the home as a gift to be displayed for all the residents, staff and visitors to view.
The piece has a central theme of a St Cuthbert’s cross worked in felted poppies, which also featured in a collage previously donated to St Catherine’s by the group. The cross is surrounded by painted flowers and mounted over a pole for ease of hanging. It will eventually be displayed in the home’s chapel following some building work in the area.
“The girls really enjoyed handing the banner over and seeing where it will go,” said art teacher Suzanne Lewis Dale.
