The Labour party swung a victory in our own pre-election ballot held at our Newcastle care home today.
Residents, staff, visitors and builders working on the home’s redevelopment were invited to cast their vote for a political party to see how a St Catherine’s “government” would look.
Activities coordinator, Richard Dobinson, as the returning officer for St Catherine’s, said that 50 votes were cast in our own mini general election and announced the following result:
Labour 23 votes – 46%
Conservative 18 votes – 36%
Liberal Democrat 4 votes – 8%
UKIP 4 votes – 8%
Green 1 vote – 2%
Scottish National Party 0 votes – 0%
Earlier residents had enjoyed a political quiz and a debate on European issues, education and the health service before our result was declared this afternoon. We will see how far St Catherine’s echoes the UK’s new political make-up very soon …!
